today’s sourdough and the creamy wild rice soup

Here is my baby today 🙂

This loaf is similar to others in making, only with an additional 2 tbs water to make it slightly sticky. During stretching and folding, the dough formed well and the stickiness has almost disappeared. I also did not add sugar to dough for the first time.

and the end product 🙂 what a beauty! I am very pleased with the oven spring.

And, finally I am consuming the wild rice that I have had for some years!!!

I totally improvised this soup:

IMG_1009

  • Add in a pot 1 cup wild rice, 1 cup red lentil, 1 small potato, 100 grms of butter, and 3 cups water
  • Boil and then simmer for 1 hour, or until rice softens

This is a very creamy and hearty soup because of the lentil and potato, and has a mixture of both soft and somewhat crunchy texture (the wild rice has a tough outer membrane)

Bon appetite! 🙂

  1. I have a weakness for carbs and your breads look fantastic! I had made bread in my breadmaker last week but it just doesn’t get all ate. I only make it when I have the kids come over. The wildrice soup looks yummy!! I love wildrice :). I grew up in the Caribbean and we ate rice everyday for lunch!

    1. this loaf really looks awesome 🙂 I too love carbs and bread was my weakness. I said “was” because since I started baking my own bread, for some reason i consume less bread. Maybe you have a similar experience? Wild rice is something new to me; I know it is healthy but it is tough to cook 🙂 But I too loved this soup – will sure try again! 🙂

  2. I usually do not bake much anymore. Since the kids are all grown up and moved out, we only have one younger one at home. That’s three of us and it is kind of hard to cook for three-especially when our taste buds are different! If I cook the “healthy stuff”, it is usually for myself. Hubby would eat it but still feel hungry afterwards. My teen is a very picky eater and definitely wouldn’t eat it. She is as skinny as a whip though she eats the junkier foods. I started eating wild rice at Red Lobster and got hooked on it. The rice I ate in the Caribbean was white rice or parboiled which we used when making fried rice.

    1. I hear you. I cook for only myself and I am a pretty lazy cook 🙂 usually, though, what I eat are healthy. I used to eat more rice when I was young myself – I really like it with butter 🙂 And fried rice sounds awesome to me! I love the Chinese fried rice. I will check the Caribbean recipes now – sounds all too good to me! 🙂
